Books of Interest to Hamacher Researchers
Burgert, Annette Kunselman and Jones, Henry Z Jr, FASG, "Westerwald
to America", (Camden, ME: Picton Press, 1989). This book covers
families from the Westerwald area of Germany. Many of the families listed in
this book came to America in the ship Samuel & Elizabeth which is the same
ship that Johann Adam and Johann Huberich Hamacher used to travel to this
country. Excellent German research. US research is good and pretty much correct.
The book is available directly from Henry
Z Jones, Jr.
Craun, Victor S. LLB, "Craun Family in America and its Connections
with other Families", (Harrisonburg, VA: The Craun Family Reunion,
1950). This book covers the descendants of Frederick and Anna Maria (Raumel)
Craun. One of their daughters, Elizabeth Craun(1794-1862), married Samuel
Hamacher(1790-1858). Samuel Hamacher is believed to have been a son of David
Hamacher who in turn was a son of Johann Adam Hamacher. Extensive material on
the descendants of Samuel and Elizabeth(Craun) Hamacher. The Craun family lived
near Centerville, VA. Samuel and Elizabeth(Craun) Hamacher moved to Indiana in
the early 19th century and left many Hamacher descendants in that part of the
country. This book is out of print but you may be able to obtain a copy from Books
on Demand UMI, Ann Arbor, MI.
Hamaker, J.I. "Our Immigrant Ancestor, Adam
Hamaker
and his Family", (JI Hamaker 1954). This book
was written and researched by JI Hamaker in the first half of the 20th century.
He did an excellent job of documenting many of the descendants of Johann Adam
Hamacher. However, information contained in this book should be only used as a
starting point for additional research and documentation. The descendants
of son Philip Hamacher are not accurate. The history of Peter Hamacher, who went
to Canada, also contains several significant errors. Despite these
issues, Dr. J.I.
Hamaker made a tremendous contribution to the history of the Hamacher family in
the United States. This book has been out of print for many years. If anyone
knows of an original copy of the book for sale, please contact me at dhammaker@aol.com.
I have divided the book into 10 sections to make reading and/or downloading a little easier.
Jones, Henry Z Jr FASG, "More Palatine Families", (Universal
City, CA: Henry Z. Jones, 1991). There is a short reference(one paragraph) to
Johann Adam Hamacher and his brother Johann Huberich Hamacher concerning the
sale of land in Germany in 1740 before they left for America. This book can be
obtained directly from Henry Z. Jones, Jr.
